Methanol

Methanol is a highly combustible, flammable liquid. It ignites easily under the effects of heat, sparks, static electricity and flame. Methanol vapour concentrations cause headache, fatigue, nausea and irritation of the mucous membranes.
Effect on the skin/eyes
Methanol splashes and vapours irritate the eyes and skin. Methanol is absorbed through the skin and high exposure can cause symptoms of poisoning.
Protection
Use personal protective equipment and a selfcontained breathing apparatus (SCBA) if necessary. Use an anti-chemical spatter suit if there is a danger of coming into contact with the liquid.
First aid
Splashes in the eyes
Rinse the eyes with plenty of running water for 20 minutes, keeping the eyelids open.
Contact with skin
Rinse the exposed area with plenty of running water and remove the contaminated clothing immediately.
Oral exposure
Rinse the mouth of the aff ected person. Take the person to a fi rst aid point immediately for medical attention.
