The Laanila Ecopower plant owned by Oulun Energia utilises approximately 140,000 tonnes a year of source-sorted municipal solid waste and industrial waste. The plant produces high-pressure steam which is utilised in the production of electricity and district heating at the adjacent Laanilan Voima power plant. Laanilan Voima Oy is responsible for the use and maintenance of the Laanila eco-power plant.

Special sites:

In addition to waste fuel material, the plant also stores and handles ashes, produced from combustion, which are classed as hazardous waste: APC-residue (air pollution control) and boiler ash. In addition, the plant also stores the following hazardous chemicals: Ammonia water (24.5%), sodium hydroxide (50%), calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide and activated carbon, as well as minor quantities of other chemicals. For this reason, particular attention must be paid to the selection and use of personal protective equipment. Further information is available from the Ecopower plant’s control room.
